What is gluten?

Gluten and psoriasis

With exact reason still awaited, psoriasis is considered an auto immune disorder where faulty immune system response causing formation of new skin cells very rapidly and causing them to deposit on the old skin cells resulting in white thick scales.Food allergies certainly worsen autoimmune diseases and gluten is one of the food ingredient which can be allergic to some of us.

As per some researches, about 25% people with psoriasis improve their condition once they stop gluten intake.But some precise concrete research result is still awaited on this topic.

So, cutting down on gluten may not be an answer for everyone having psoriasis, but, still we must know that number of people got benefited by going gluten free.Generally people with guttate psoriasis benefit the most from gluten free diet.If gluten free diet regime is working for me, it means that you have sensitivity towards gluten and eliminating gluten is enabling your body to absorb the nutrients from your food and improve your digestive system.

But we must remember that if gluten is not a culprit, then cutting down on gluten is not a good idea because cutting down on gluten will really make it hard for you to have a balanced diet and deficiency of vital nutrients will eventually worsen your psoriasis.

Best approach would be to go Gluten and dairy free for atleast 4 weeks and see the results.If this diet reduces psoriasis, and then think of extending this program otherwise gluten is not a culprit for you.Don’t wonder too much why I mentioned DAIRY along with gluten.The next post on this blog will be highlighting the relation of psoriasis flare up with dairy J

Either you can try this gluten free diet straight away (because there is no such potential harm in trying it for a month or so) or you can consult your GP (general physician) before going for it.

With more and more people getting health conscious and looking for gluten free diet, it is relatively easier now than ever before to find a wide range of gluten free products in your nearby grocery store, bakery or your favorite restaurant. But do remember that some times, manufacturers add sugar, saturated fats and preservatives in their gluten free products to make them tasty as there is a general conception that gluten free products are not tasty.These ingredients will add unwanted calories in the food which can prove hard to digest and burn for your metabolism.So, when picking gluten free food products, do take a note of balanced diet principle.Hence, pick gluten free food products without added sugar,saturated fats and added preservatives.Refer to the packaging labels to check the ingredients.

When you are sticking to a gluten free diet, do remember that apart from cereals  (wheat,barley,rye,durum,graham etc.) and products made from them like bakeries,pizzas,burgers,hot dogs,bread,pasta etc. and BEER, there are some other commonly used products which have gluten as : soy sauce,soups, salad dressings,some candies etc.

if no roti then what is the subsitute for it
