Today I am at my hometown, about 100 miles from New Delhi, the capital of India. I had a brief interaction with a person known to my father. The person here mentioned is very special because he is a person having psoriasis. He is a mature man, 50 years old and dealing with psoriasis since last 18 years.He is a businessman having his own brick manufacturing plant at the outskirts of my town. Brick refers to small unit for building material. My father took me over to his place and we had a nice discussion. As it happens every time I meet a person with similar skin condition, I feel a special sort of bonding meeting him. He asked me some basic things like when I developed it and my journey till date. I feel proud sharing my story of self management with him and random appreciations from my father made it more special. He appreciated it as well. Then, he shared his story of trying all sort of medicines and then he revealed his secret diet which have helped him healing his psoriasis to a large extent which was clearly visible as well. I was able to notice those left over spot marks on his hands and legs. Seems his diet is working well for him. Here goes his dietary and general recommendation:
- For him, psoriasis root cause and its healing, both lies in your GUT
- Do whatever you can to avoid constipation and indigestion
- Regular exercise and drinking a lot of water would help
- Drinking water from a copper vessel is the best remedy to have smooth bowel movement. At early morning, drink about a liter of water stored in copper vessel overnight. You will never have constipation problem.
- Regular yoga and pranayam for 30 minutes a day
- Food items to be avoided:
–Milk (Milk and salt is the worst opposite food combination and can really trigger psoriasis) –eggplant (brinjal) –Tomato — Black gram (Urad dal) — Peppers (chilli pepper and black pepper particularly)
- Food and herbs/supplements that heal psoriasis:
—Flax seeds (These are vegetarian source of omega 3 fatty acids. Soak 1 spoonfuls of flax seeds in filtered water overnight and then chew the flax seeds in early morning after draining water) — Don’t use wheat flour to make Indian bread (roti).Use gram flour instead. He consumed rotis (Indian bread) made from gram flour for 6 months. Now, he has started using wheat flour gradually. –Use clarified butter (GHEE) and coconut oil for cooking only. — Take Seven seas Seacod cod liver oil capsules (one capsule thrice a day)
He didn’t show much interest in telling me about the source from where he have derived his module of treatment.Hence I didn’t ask much questions in this regard. I told him about our blog and he was more than happy to let me post this information here on our blog.I thanked him for his generosity and took his leave.
From his treatment module, I noticed 3 new things for me: Flax seeds, clarified butter (ghee) and cod liver oil.
Don’t know much about clarified butter, but rest of the 2 things are rich source of omega 3 fatty acids and omega 3 fatty acid supplements have been considered to heal psoriasis as I can see over the internet. I think, it would be appropriate if I post a detailed post about the role of omega 3 fatty acids in healing psoriasis.
One more thing, I think there would be some contradictions among the people about dietary instructions.For instance, one food product may be harmful for one person while may not be having any negative effect at all on some other person.Hence, we should quit any thing only after observing its effect on our psoriasis because psoriasis can be very specific sometimes.
great ideas — i agree about the members of the nightshade family — if i accidentally eat something from that family, my skin flares for days.
