Connection between psoriasis and diet is quite a debatable issue. Various health experts of modern medical science simply deny any relation between psoriasis and diet. For them, psoriasis is an auto-immune disorder and they are still working to find the exact cause behind this complex skin disease. A lot of people suffering from this disease also give support to this statement because they consider their psoriasis as a genetic disorder and hence, diet can do nothing good to heal their skin. It is their opinion and I respect that.
On the other hand, there are people (including myself) who have experienced dramatic and amazing reduction in their psoriasis symptoms by holistic healing concept. If you check “Real life experiences” section of this blog, you will find stories of real world people who have experienced amazing healing results by walking on the path of holistic healing.
Holistic healing of psoriasis comprises of
- Positive change in diet
- Positive change in lifestyle
- Stress management
- Use of natural herbs and supplements
- Using natural topical solutions (herbal shampoo and creams)
What is Psoriasis
I am a non medico, an engineering professional, struggling to heal my psoriasis and holistic healing concept is working well for me. Hence, I can’t explain my understanding of psoriasis in medical terms. But, when we all know that the exact cause of psoriasis is still unknown and all these expert dermatologists are just working on the external skin patches, then we all are left with no other option, but to use our own conscious to understand this stubborn skin condition.
In my opinion, psoriasis is not just a skin disorder. Actually, there skin patches are just a reflection of something wrong inside your body. Psoriasis is an internal body metabolism related problem. Chronic fault in your digestive system can increase the level of body toxins beyond the safety limit. When these accumulated body toxins starts to enter your bloodstream, then various health issues can occur including psoriasis.
Your body has two primary organs responsible of elimination of toxins- liver and kidney. If toxins level goes beyond the safety limit, then these two organs overwork to remove these toxins from your body. When such a state of increased body toxins continues for a longer time due to chronic fault in your body metabolism, then ultimately these organs would almost give up. Then your skin would come forward to rescue these organs by eliminating body toxins through the skin itself in the form of psoriasis lesions.
How toxins are generated in your body
Every day, when you eat food, you are producing toxins in our body. Yes, you heard it right. The food that we eat is, directly or indirectly, the chief contributor of toxins in your body. I have tried to explain this phenomenon in a simplified manner by below diagram:
Now we can understand that the waste products (toxins) are a byproduct of burning of nutrients present in your food. Lesser generation of toxins, faster will be the healing process. Hence, we should choose our diet in such a way that it impose least possible burden on your digestive system which is already somewhat impaired.

Psoriasis and diet
Holistic healing concept works on the principle of detoxification of your body. You need to remove the accumulated toxins from your body and then make sure not to accumulate toxins any further. As explained above, out of all the pillars of holistic healing, the important one is- DIET.
- Your Diet should be easy to digest. It should not force your digestive system to work harder. Easier the digestion, lesser will be the toxins generation.
- A lot of studies have found a relation between impaired (weak) liver and psoriasis. The liver is one of the most important organ of your body involved in elimination of toxins from your body. Hence, when your liver is weak, then you should try to choose your food in such a way that it produces lesser toxins so that your liver can handle those toxins effectively. Higher toxin generation can further damage your liver.
- You should eat a balanced nutritious diet. A Diet too rich in fats and proteins (amino acids) should be avoided because burning of higher amount of fats and proteins would be a difficult task for your already damaged internal body metabolism. Incomplete burning means unutilized nutrients and hence increased toxins.
Right diet can re-establish the healthy gut flora (balance of microorganisms in your gut). It will ensure optimum presence of good bacteria which are responsible for proper digestion. Also, it will restrict the overgrowth of yeast (Candida). Healthy gut flora with a good amount of good bacteria and minimum yeast population can really speed up the healing process.
